La Moresca in the Village of Celsa
Our apartment stands in a building whose history is deeply tied to the Borgo di Celsa. The area of today’s living room was once part of the Refectory of the Confraternity of the Augustinians, a detail that lends a solemn, unique atmosphere. In the aftermath of Italy’s unification, with the suppression of the orders ordered by the Murat edict, the entire Confraternity was altered and turned into a palace. The sleeping area overlooks the old square “Largo convento”, which once housed the confraternity’s cloister and today embraces the village’s two churches: the Church of the Holy Spirit and the larger Cathedral, marked by the ancient Saracen tower turned into a bell tower, visible from the master double bedroom. The living area, instead, enjoys a view from the kitchen over the confraternity’s old “hortus conclusus”, defined by the arched structure of the Bourbon aqueduct that carried water from the island’s mountainous area, and by a lovely view over the Gulf.

Experience the village of ISCHIA PONTE

The village of Ischia Ponte (formerly called Celsa due to the presence of mulberry trees, which are still there today) is full of stories to tell and places to visit; below we point out:
The Aragonese Castle, about a 5-minute walk from the house, is worth exploring. It has an elevator, but we suggest you reach the top on foot, following the charming path carved into the rock. Throughout the summer, art exhibitions, cultural and music events are also organized
(info on the website https://castelloaragoneseischia.com/)
The bay of Cartaromana, besides being rich in beach clubs easily reached with the taxi-boat service (leaving from Piazzale delle alghe), is also an archaeological site of interest thanks to recent finds of an ancient Roman city. If you would like more information, 2 minutes from the house you will find the headquarters of the association “navigando verso Aenaria”, where boat tours and screenings of reconstructions of the submerged city are organized.
The church of Sant’Anna (patroness of fishermen) and Michelangelo’s tower, reachable via the scenic little road of Via Soronzano, right in front of Piazzale Largo Convento (where the apartment is located).
